Most people are familiar with the term: When one door closes, another one opens. I like to think that many doors stay open to us in this life, it's just a matter of walking down the right hall. New beginnings can be terrifying sometimes, especially to those who struggle to embrace change. However I've found through wisdom& experience that "letting go" is the hard part. People become too comfortable, complacent, or fearful of trying something new.

Whether it be entering a relationship, pursuing marriage, buying a house, starting a family, pushing for that promotion, taking that trip, moving to that city, etc.

It's funny I was led to use the word "et cetera". This brings to my memory,

Rodgers& Hammerstein's classic musical

"The King & I". As a child I enjoyed watching the 1956 version of the movie, starring Yul Brynner.

This was the story of Anna, an English governess (nanny/tutor) who traveled to live in the Palace of Siam. She was brought to the royal family to institute customs, education, and change. There is a scene in the movie where Anna is asked by the king, to explain the meaning behind her use of the Latin expression "Et cetera". Which in English, translates to mean; and other similar things & so forth.

The King took use of the term, (which is abbreviated 'etc.' ) and it became common place. It was actually pretty funny how he began to throw the term around, specifically to agitate Anna. The point I'm trying to make is this: at first the king, His children, and many wives, rejected her teachings. Out of uncertainty, and fear. However, after some time passed, they began to embrace English customs, in order to bring about unity, and change within their kingdom. Assimilation can many times be a good thing.

In conclusion, this was a groundbreaking, and life changing event. The royal family had to "let go" of centuries old traditions, in order to adjust to English ways. They became more educated, diverse, open minded, and stronger than before. All because they started to do "A New Thing". Don't let fear or doubt stop you! Dont let those things hinder you from recieving: Your 'New Thing'!
