When I was in third grade, I was introduced to the written works of Langston Hughes. One of the most influential African American poets, of the Harlem Renaissance. His poetry was deep, Intelligent, and passionate. I found myself devouring book after book. My favorite poem is "Mother to Son", because "life for me, ain't been no crystal stair." I became so moved, and inspired by what I read, I decided I had to share with others. So I came up with the idea to do a performance, displaying his work.

I ended up writing, casting, and directing my first stage play, in the classroom. The show became such a hit, as I joined students together, my teacher decided to do a classroom "tour". I will never forget Mrs. Lynn Schommer. She invited all the other 3rd grade classes to come view my show, daily.

A few selected classmates and I, performed live on the regular. It was a huge success.

In life sometimes we dont always see what others see in us. It doesnt mean it's not there. At an early age, I believe God gave me the confidence to be outspoken, and creative. I believe my teacher gave me the support& platform to do it. Flash forward a couple decades, and God has given me the confidence to be creative once again. It took time, and some heartache& pain. However, a good friend or two, gave me the support I needed. This encouraged me to step out on my platform.

People may not always see what you have to offer, and you may not either. God always does. He says He prepares a table for us, even before our enemies. Some days, all we gotta do is show up. That's when He shows off! Get to know your worth!
